Domes, Pods & Environments
PCC deploys as coherent functional expressions, not arbitrary technology bundles. Domes are a first-class deployment form alongside pods. A pod is an illustrative configuration of cooperating capabilities, shaped to a purpose. Pods are not fixed products, deployed claims, or a closed taxonomy — they are patterns. Each can operate independently or participate within a greater PCC deployment. A dome is one possible installation form, not the definition of PCC.
Domes
The dome is where this work began. The original CHI-8 Meditation Engine was conceived in 2016 as a complete embodied environment — a portable CHI-8 Mini and a full geodesic-dome installation — with the Protocognitive Co-processor (PCC) as its internal coordinating architecture. A first-generation dome instrument is fully specified in a published construction, calibration and safety reference (The Coherence Exchange Protocol v2.0 & the Proto-Cognitive Co-Processor System, Carl Langley, 2025), and multi-dome coherence engineering is published research design. The implemented instrument today is the Chi-8 Mini, whose practice-session sensing and review run within the reference implementation.
Domes are stated exactly: published design and research direction, backed by an implemented portable instrument — not a shipped product. Origins & Evolution has the full lineage.
Illustrative pods
| Pattern | Purpose | Nearest PCC expression |
|---|---|---|
| Knowledge Pod | Continuity and recoverable knowledge. | Knowledge Ecology + Semantic Cart |
| Development Pod | Governed capability evolution. | Governed development sandbox + Evolution Custodian |
| Sensor Pod | Distributed perception. | Distributed sensorium node(s) |
| Science Pod | Inquiry and observation. | Science / Nature-Observing pods |
| Habitat Pod | Environmental systems. | Habitat pods |
| Energy Pod | Resource coherence in the field. | Resource-Coherence configuration |
| Physics Pod | Electromagnetic, acoustic and spectral work. | Electromagnetic / Acoustic / Optical-Spectral / Radio-Signal pods |
| Mobility & Fleet Pod | Mobile and vehicle-mounted. | Mobile / vehicle-mounted pods |
| Field & Robotics Pod | Remote stations and actuation. | Actuation pods / remote field stations |
These names are an accessible public vocabulary. Where they differ from internal terminology, a quiet mapping is maintained; nothing here asserts a shipped product.
How pods compose
A single deployment may combine several patterns — a Sensor Pod feeding a Knowledge Pod, governed by a Development Pod — cooperating through the native semantic fabric with identity, evidence and authority preserved at every seam. Interoperability is designed across eight levels, from transport to recovery. See the model.
The embodiment continuum
One architecture, many phenotypes. Where supported by evidence or stated as design intent, PCC-COS embodiments range across: CHI-8 Mini; full CHI-8 geodesic domes; specialist and multi-dome arrangements; modular pods; rooms, homes and buildings; laboratories and research environments; care, treatment, wellbeing and growing environments — future-facing research and design-partnership directions, with no efficacy claims made; industrial systems; vehicles and robotic systems; distributed infrastructure; and software and organisational environments. Each is an expression of one architecture, described at its actual evidence state.
Where this is today
Pods are illustrative design patterns backed by an operational reference implementation of the underlying capabilities. Composing a pattern for your context is a natural design-partnership engagement. We describe pods as configurations, and we state capability evidence exactly. Read the evidence.
