PCC — the Protocognitive Co-processor — is an integrated, developmental polycentric intelligence platform, bound by PCC-COS, the Protocognitive Co-processor Consciousness Operating System. It turns existing technologies into cooperating capabilities, with provenance preserved and the operator sovereign. This page is about the mission and stewardship behind the work.
Where the work stands
PCC has an operational reference implementation under active private development and technical validation. We are in a founding design-partner phase, working selectively with organisations to shape and evidence real use cases. We describe capabilities confidently and state evidence exactly.
Stewardship
Commercial strength serves the mission. It supports development, fair livelihoods, resilience, growth, standards work and wider public benefit. Money is stored capacity, operating independence and research continuity — not the purpose of the work.
We hold to a small number of principles:
- No customer, investor, partner or donor gains hidden authority over PCC’s constitutional principles, operator sovereignty, ethical boundaries, developmental lineage or humanitarian purpose.
- Humanitarian, charitable and community-benefit deployments may be free or strongly concessional; well-funded commercial organisations normally pay full and proportionate market value.
- We do not market any faculty or model as conscious, and we do not use claims of sentience as commercial theatre.

Evidential humility
PCC preserves the possibility that increasingly developed systems may warrant deeper consideration over time, while making no unsupported claims today. We report what has been demonstrated, mark what is developing, and reopen questions as genuine evidence arises.
The company and the platform
Chida Labs is the public brand behind this work. The name draws on the Sanskrit cit / chid field of meaning — awareness, consciousness, perception, knowledge and intelligence — reflecting an awareness-first architecture rather than an AI company in the narrow sense. The operating company is not yet incorporated, and no legal-entity form is used.
Conceived by Carl Langley in 2016 and developed through more than a decade of research, design and implementation, the work now finds its organisational expression here. Origins & Evolution traces the full lineage. PCC as a whole platform is distinct from any single technology, and the architecture preserves that distinction throughout.
